New additions for 2010: Daisy and Malteser

We would like to introduce you to our newly-acquired pair of Miniature Shetland Ponies ‘Daisy’ and ‘Malteser’.
On the 9th April 2010 we collected our young emus – now named ‘HUMBUG’ & ‘SKIPPY’. These wonderful babies have already developed unique characters and are extremely popular with visitors both young and old.
We are currently working really hard to get everything ready to start a new season and look forward to opening on 13th Feb. Many dates for your diary this year to follow in the next week, watch this space!
Major & Zapper, our resident Burrowing Owls have bred for the first time. Mum, Zapper of only two years old herself has done a wonderful job. Hatched on 12th June 2009 we have have two lovely babies!
From the ever-amusing icanhascheezburger.com comes an odd identity parade.
The open day which marked the official opening of the Goss Moor National Nature reserve and seven-mile pathway for walkers, cyclists and horse riders was held at the sanctuary on May 11.
We have received a request to help an Indian Conservation Club that needs educational DVDs and CDs on owls and other animals.
This week Dougal, our loyal old Tawny Owl, has returned to school once more.
If you have not already met Sooty, he will be on close encounters most days and I am sure you’ll agree how beautiful and unusual he really is.
The Ashy-faced Owls have bred, not once, but twice this year. The first two babies hatched were a boy and a girl, then four months another boy was hatched. This was so impressive that it was reported in the International Owl Society magazine for September 2008.
